
Salina Boudreaux Thompson’s life changes dramatically after the Hurricane Katrina disaster. Salina is a native of New Orleans. She is married to Daniel Thompson. She loves her husband. The marriage was not a happy union, mostly because of Daniel’s infidelity.
Daniel and Salina divorce after he leaves her for another woman. Salina’s family maintains a relationship with Daniel after their separation. This causes a rift between Salina and her family. Salina starts to rebuild her life after her divorce.
Soon after her divorce, her life is again torn apart after she is swept up in the disaster caused by Hurricane Katrina. She leaves New Orleans and relocates to a different city.
Once again, Salina begins a new life. During this time, she falls in love and becomes engaged to a man who is loving and devoted.
She is bothered by the estrangement from her family and misses them. She misses her mother most of all. She and her fiance take a trip to New Orleans. She finds that conditions in the city have improved since the last time she was there, but it has not fully recovered from the damage caused by Katrina.
Salina is reunited with her family. She comes to realize that she needs them in her life. She also realizes that she loves New Orleans. New Orleans will always be home to her no matter where she lives.
